Brown University Men's Lacrosse

Brown University's Chancellor Samuel M. Mencoff '78 Vice President for Athletics and Recreation M. Grace Calhoun '92, Ph.D. has named Jon Torpey the Rothman Head Coaching Chair for Men's Lacrosse in May 2024. He enters his second season at the helm of the program in 2026. The Bears captured the program's eighth Ocean State Cup in 2025 after taking rivalry wins over Providence College, the first under Torpey, and Bryant. Brown also took a thrilling 8-7 road win over 16th-ranked UMass to close out non-conference play. Charlie Cave continued his stellar career and earned Inside Lacrosse Third Team All-America honors along with Second Team All-Ivy recognition. Aidan McLane joined Cave on the Second Team All-Ivy. The program continued to excel in the classroom and earned the highest GPA in the country with the USILA Academic Team Award. Six Bears picked up USILA Scholar All-American honors and 12 Bears picked up NEILA All-Academic recognition. Torpey joins Brown after leading High Point University since 2010. Leading the HPU men’s lacrosse program since its inception (NCAA season began in 2013), Torpey took just three seasons of NCAA competition to lead the Panthers to their first NCAA Tournament berth when the team defeated Richmond in the 2015 Southern Conference Championship game. He led the Panthers to their second NCAA tournament appearance in 2022 after defeating Richmond in the SoCon final, 11-8. Torpey becomes the seventh Brown men’s lacrosse head coach since 1963. Tocco enters his fifth season on the staff for the Brown men’s lacrosse program in 2026. Five Bears, including First Team All-Ivy Matthew Gunty, picked up postseason Ivy League honors. Additionally, Gunty and Devon McLane picked up USILA Scholar All-American honors as the Bears posted another strong season in the classroom. The 2022 campaign saw the Bears post a 10-5 overall record and capture a share of the Ivy League Regular Season Title. The Bears welcomed Cornell, Penn, and Yale to Stevenson-Pincince Field for the 2022 Ivy League Tournament.
