2024 marked Drew Anthony’s sixth season on Russ Huesman’s coaching staff and his fifth as the safeties coach. Anthony initially joined the staff in 2019 as a defensive assistant, working with the Spiders’ dimes position. He also serves as the Special Teams Coordinator. In 2025, Anthony helped lead a defense that ranked among the Patriot League and FCS leaders. Richmond led the Patriot League and ranked fourth nationally in passing defense, allowing just 155.3 yards per game, while finishing second in the conference in scoring defense at 22.7 points per game and third in interceptions with 11. The Spiders also ranked second in the Patriot League and sixth nationally in total defense, surrendering 290.3 yards per game, and third in the league in tackles for loss at 6.1 per contest. Anthony guided team captain Jordan Allen to First Team All-Patriot League honors after he ranked third on the Spiders in tackles with 74, recorded four pass breakups and an interception at North Carolina. Next to Allen, Anthony helped sophomore Lee Bruner IV to a breakout season where he was fourth in tackles for Richmond with 51 and a team-leading three interceptions, including two against Fordham on Nov. 1. On special teams in 2025, Anthony helped punter Ned Gray average over 38 yards per kick in his first-ever season playing football.
