Nick Carlin-Voigt, who had spent the previous four years as the associate head coach for the UCLA Bruins, was named the head coach of the University of Portland

Bryant Ferate returned to the University of Portland Sports Performance staff in July of 2017. Ferate is responsible for working primarily with the Women's Basketball, Baseball, Men's Soccer, and Men's Cross Country/Track & Field teams. He came back into a fulltime role at UP after serving as a Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Minnesota Twins Organization. Ferate earned his bachelor's of science degree from Washington State University and master's of science from the University of Texas at Arlington. Prior to entering graduate school he had the opportunity to complete professional internships with Washington State University, University of Kentucky, and the University of Iowa Olympic Sports. Ferate is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, USAW Level 1 Club Coach from US Weightlifting, StrongFirst Level 1 Kettlebell Coach, Precision Nutrition Level 1 certified, and CPR/AED certified.
