Assistant Coach and Director of Performance
Brett Cloepfil enters his seventh season on staff at the University of Northern Colorado, and third year as an Assistant Coach and Director of Performance. In his first two years as an Assistant Coach, the Bears compiled a cumulative record of 44-24, including accomplishing a Big Sky regular season championship and a second-place finish in 2023-2024. Cloepfil’s responsibilities included overseeing the wing position development, working as a sports performance team liaison, and preparing for special situations. Previously, Cloepfil served as the Director of Operations in 2022-2023 and director of Player Development from 2020-2022. He was also a volunteer assistant at UNC from 2019-2020. In those four seasons at UNC, the Bears complied an overall combined record of 67-56. Prior to UNC, Cloepfil led Greeley West High School from 2014-19, coaching the Spartans to the 5A state tournament all five seasons. He holds the 5A school record for wins in a season and overall 5A winning percentage throughout his tenure. Cloepfil began his career as an AAU coach for the Colorado Chaos Basketball Club from 2011-16. He coached and helped develop over 20 Division I players and over 40 players went on to play college basketball at various levels. Gause is entering his fourth season on staff at Northern Colorado and his second year as Assistant Coach/Director of Operations. He was promoted to the role ahead of the 2023-24 season after serving as the Bears’ Director of Player Development in 2022-23. In his current position, Gause oversees day-to-day operations including team travel, budgeting, housing logistics, and on-campus recruiting, while also assisting with on-court player development, basketball analytics, recruiting, and scouting. During his first year at UNC, he also served as the Director of the 2023 Steve Smiley Basketball Camps. Before returning to his alma mater in 2022, Gause spent the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach at Western Nebraska Community College, where he was involved in every aspect of the program, practice planning, scouting, film breakdown, recruiting, and skill development. He also managed team travel, equipment, social media, community service, and served as both dorm supervisor and academic liaison. From 2019-21, Gause worked at Division II Cameron University as a graduate assistant coach. In that role, he functioned as a full-time assistant, handling practice design, film breakdown, recruiting, and game planning. Dorian Green joined the Northern Colorado men’s basketball staff in May 2019 and was elevated to Assistant Head Coach and Director of Advanced Scouting in May 2022. Entering his seventh season in Greeley, Green has been a central figure in the Bears’ rise to sustained success in the Big Sky Conference. During his tenure, Northern Colorado has recorded three 20-win seasons, three postseason appearances, two Big Sky Championship Game appearances, and the 2024-25 Big Sky Conference Championship. His leadership and tactical insight have been instrumental in establishing UNC as one of the most efficient and dynamic programs in the league. Helping lead the Bears’ offensive efforts as the Offensive Coordinator, Green has guided the Bears to unprecedented scoring efficiency. From 2022-25, UNC finished No. 1 nationally in field goal percentage, while also ranking atop the Big Sky in offensive production, scoring margin (+7.9), three-point field goal percentage, and assists per game. His analytics-driven approach to game planning and player development has consistently translated to results on the court. Green has played a significant role in developing some of the most decorated Bears in recent history. Assistant Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator
Houston Reed is entering his sixth season as an assistant coach for the University of Northern Colorado. Reed brings fourteen years of college head coaching experience and spent three years as a high school head coach in Colorado, totaling 23 years of successful coaching. In May of 2022, Reed was promoted to Assistant Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator. In the two years span the Bears have compiled a 44-24 overall record, and 27-9 record in Big Sky Conference play. Reed has worked with UNC post players over the past five seasons, helping Kur Jongkuch, Theo Hughes, and Brock Wisne shoot over 60% from the floor each season. Jongkuch and Hughes are currently fulfilling professional contracts. Reed also fulfills the role of recruiting coordinator for the staff, coordinating campus visits and assists the staff in organizing their recruiting needs. Reed has recruited the state of Colorado for twenty years. Since Reed has been on staff, the Bears have competed in the Big Sky tournament championship game in 2021-22 and 2024-25 seasons. The Bears have also competed twice in the CBI post season tournament advancing to the semifinals in 2021-22. He also was helped the Bears advance to the NIT tournament for the first time in school history and the 2024-25 Big Sky regular season championship in 2024-25 season.
