New Orleans native and nationally renowned basketball scout Mal Mundy joined the University of New Orleans men's basketball coaching staff in July 2026. As the founder of HoopFest Tour Basketball and the Big Easy Coaches Conference, Mundy is one of the most respected evaluators of basketball talent with connections spanning the entire country. He founded HoopFest Tour Basketball in March 2012, serving as National Recruiting Analyst and Director, hosting tournaments, camps, and showcases that have helped thousands of student-athletes develop and advance to the next level while becoming a trusted source for collegiate coaching staffs and NBA executives. Mundy also founded and served as Director of Operations and Marketing of the Big Easy Coaches Conference in June 2020, which has attracted thousands of coaches and over 40 Division I head coaches as keynote speakers. He attended O Perry Walker High School for two years before graduating from Helen Cox, earning a four-year basketball letter and a full athletic scholarship to Rise Academy in Philadelphia before settling at Chabot College under CCCMBCA Hall of Fame coach Denny Aye. Mundy earned a B.A. in Education from Trinity Christian University in 2014 and a B.A. in Management from the University of Phoenix in 2024.
