Now in his fourth year on the Mizzou sideline, he aims to build off his early progress as the Tigers chase championships with him leading the program. IMMEDIATE IMPACT AT MIZZOU Named the program’s 20th head coach on March 22, 2022, Gates made his first year on the Tigers’ sideline a memorable one. Inheriting a team that won 12 games and returned just three players from the season before, Gates engineered the seventh-best improvement nationally – and top among power-conference schools – during the 2022-23 campaign with the Tigers winning 25 games.
