Michael Kemerer was named an assistant coach at Minnesota on Sept. 18, 2024. "Having Michael Kemerer join our coaching staff is a huge addition to our program," Eggum said at the time of the hiring. "His technical expertise, leadership, emphasis on culture and personal connections with our athletes will make a significant impact. Minnesota has finished ninth or better at the NCAA Championships in Kemerer's two seasons on the staff and has seen six earn All-America honors, including 2026 national champion Max McEnelly at 184 pounds, the first ever at the weight for the Gophers. McEnelly was also a finalist at the Big Ten Championships. In his first season with the Maroon and Gold, Kemerer played an integral role in McEnelly’s breakout redshirt freshman season. McEnelly was a finalist at the Big Ten Championships and then claimed third place at the NCAA Championships to earn All-America honors for the first time in his career. As a team, Minnesota placed fourth at Big Tens and fifth at NCAAs. In the summer of 2025, he helped McEnelly win gold at the U20 World Championships. Kemerer came to Minnesota after one season as an assistant coach at Brown University. Prior to that, he served as Resident Athlete at Spartan Combat RTC, a world-class training outfit in Ithaca, N.Y., where he also assisted with coaching. In addition, he was an assistant coach at Iowa
