Allen Edwards was hired as the Associate Head Coach at UMass in April of 2022. Edwards joined the Minutemen with four years of head coaching and 16 years of assistant coaching experience and most recently spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Loyola Marymount. “Super excited to once again line up with Allen Edwards on my side,” said Frank Martin. “I was fortunate enough to coach him in high school and watched him grow as a coach after completing his unbelievably successful playing career. He brings unbelievable experience as a former head coach and as a lead assistant coach for tremendous coaches in his background. Allen and his family will be a tremendous addition to UMass and the Amherst communities." At Loyola Marymount, Edwards helped the Lions to a top-three finish in the West Coast Conference in 2020-21 and helped them secure their first winning record in conference play since 2011-12. The squad finished in the top-100 in the NCAA NET rankings at No. 95, the highest finish in NET or RPI since the 1990 season. Prior to arriving at LMU, Edwards spent nine seasons at Wyoming and was the head coach of the Cowboys from 2016-10. Edwards’ teams recorded 60 wins over four seasons, including back-to-back 20-win seasons while winning 23 games in 2016-17 on the way to the CBI Championship. Anthony Evans joined Frank Martin’s staff as the team’s Director of Player Personnel in July of 2023. Evans was most recently an Advanced Regional College and High School Scout for the Cleveland Cavaliers and brings 11 years of Division I head coaching experience to Massachusetts. Evans spent five seasons as the head coach at FIU following six years as the head coach at Norfolk State. At FIU, Evans’ teams ranked in the top-10 percent nationally from 2015-17 in the NCAA Academic Progress Report and coached multiple Conference USA all-league and all-defensive players. Evans became a collegiate head coach for the first time in May of 2007 as he was promoted to head coach at Norfolk State after four seasons as an assistant coach. In 2013, Evans led his squad to the program’s first MEAC regular season championship and was name the league’s coach of the year after posting the conference’s first unbeaten season since 1994. Evans guided the team to its first Division I NCAA Tournament as a 15-seed and upset no. 2-seeded and no. 3 nationally ranked Missouri in the second round. He was named a finalist for the Jim Phelan and Ben Jobe National Coach of the Year awards in 2013. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native earned his bachelor’s degree in 1994 from St. Thomas Aquinas College, where he played point guard for the Spartans.

Brian Steele was hired as an assistant coach at UMass in April of 2022 after spending time on head coach Frank Martin’s staff at South Carolina. Steele served as the team’s video coordinator for the 2020-21 season following time as a player for the Gamecocks. The Greenville, S.C. native was an assistant coach for two years prior at Queens University in Charlotte, where he helped guide the Royals to a NCAA DII Elite Eight appearance in the 2018-19 season. Steele signed the highest ranked recruit in Queens history in three-star guard Justin Thomas and helped coach the Royals to a top 25 finish in both major national polls for a fifth-straight season in 2019-20. Steele was a three-year letter winner at South Carolina as a student-athlete and served as a student assistant during the 2015-16 season in addition to the 2016-17 Final Four campaign. Steele was a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and earned his degree in sport and entertainment management in 2016. During his prep career at Wade Hampton High School, Steele earned all-state, all-region, and all-county honors and helped his squad earn a state championship during his junior season. “Brian Steele is a future star in the coaching profession,” said Martin. “He became a graduate assistant after completing his playing career for me at South Carolina. David Maclutsky enters his 15th year at the University of Massachusetts in 2021-22 and his eighth as an Associate Athletic Trainer while he continues his primary focus on the day-to-day care and treatment of the men's basketball program as well as the men's and women's cross country teams. Maclutsky received his master's degree in exercise science in 2001. He also served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at UMass for two years. Prior to his return to Amherst, Maclutsky was the Director of Sports Medicine at Saint Peter's College after he worked as a certified athletic trainer at Army Prep for one year. Maclutsky also previously served as an assistant athletic trainer at the College of the Holy Cross for four years. The Colonie, N.Y., native earned his bachelor's degree in athletic training from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Brockport in 1996. Doug Edwards was hired as the Director of Player Personnel and Special Assistant to the Head Coach in May of 2022. He is as accomplished of a player as there is from being a McDonald’s All-American, to a leading person in the building of Florida State basketball, to a top-20 NBA pick. He has a great basketball mind that will assist us in the building of our program." As a collegiate player at Florida State, Edwards led the Seminoles to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 1990-93. The Miami, Fla. Native scored 1,604 points in his career and is the only player at FSU to score 500 or more points in three consecutive seasons. Edwards earned All-SEC Second-Team honors as a senior before being drafted with the 15th overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1993 NBA Draft. Edwards was coached by Martin at Miami Senior High School from 1986-90, where he won two Class 4A State Championships, including one as a senior on the way to a No. 2 final ranking in the USA Today Super 25. Frank Martin enters his fourth season at the helm of the Massachusetts men’s basketball program in 2025-26. Martin was named the 23rd head coach in men’s basketball history in March of 2022. The Minutemen finished the 2024-25 season with 12 wins, including seven in conference play. Under Martin's tutelage guard Rahsool Diggins had a breakout senior season, averaging a team-high 16.8 points on his way to earning All-Atlantic 10 Third Team honors. During the 2023-24, Martin led the Minutemen to their best campaign since 2014, finishing with a 20-11 overall record and securing a top-four seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship. The campaign marked the program’s first 20-win season since 2013-14 and first top-four seed since the 2007-08 season. The Minutemen opened Martin’s first season at the helm with a 7-1 record and a Myrtle Beach Invitational title. UMass’ midseason tournament championship run featured wins over Colorado, Murray State, and Charlotte while jumpstarting a six-game win streak for the Minutemen. The team also picked up a win over Hofstra at the Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational in the Barclays Center with Matt Cross claiming the MVP honor. Matt Figger was hired as the Assistant Coach at UMass on May 21, 2024. Figger spent ten seasons on Martin’s staff at Kansas State and South Carolina before head coaching stints at Austin Peay and UT Rio Grande Valley. Coming to Amherst with a wealth of head coaching experience, Figger spent the last three seasons at UT Rio Grande Valley after four seasons leading Austin Peay. The 2017-18 OVC Coach of The Year, Figger compiled a 76-51 (.598) record, including a 49-25 (.662) mark in OVC play with the Governors. Figger secured two consecutive 20-plus win seasons, recording double-digit conference wins in all four years at the helm in Clarksville, Tennessee. Engineering one of the NCAA’s largest defensive turnarounds, Figger became the first coach in program history to earn double-digit conference wins in his first two seasons. Under Figger’s tutelage, multiple players received All-OVC honors including two-time OVC Player of the Year and current NBA player Terry Taylor. Taylor recorded an NCAA-best 20 double-doubles in 2020-21 while also leading the NCAA in offensive rebounding at 5.15 per game. Serving on staff under Martin at both South Carolina and Kansas State, Figger helped Martin lead both programs to new heights.
