Dr. Chip Augustus

Biography

A native of Louisville, KY, Dr. Chip Augustus is a Mental Performance Specialist at the University of Louisville, where he has worked since January 2023. He works with teams, student-athletes, and coaches to identify strengths and develop mental skills and approaches for well-being and performance. Augustus has been privileged to work with amazing people through a variety of experiences as a coach and mental performance consultant, and he loves when student-athletes take ownership of their mental skills and teams come together around a common vision. Prior to joining Louisville, he served as a Mental Performance Trainee at West Virginia University (2021-2022), where he was pursuing his Doctor of Philosophy in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology. He also worked as a Volunteer Mental Performance Coach at the University of Louisville (2016-2020) and as a Volunteer Coach for Mental Performance at Fairmont State University Swimming (2020-2022). Augustus owns Chip LLC and previously served as Senior and National Coach at Cardinal Aquatics (2011-2020), earning KY Senior Swim Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2020. He holds a Master's of Education in Counseling Psychology from the University of Louisville (2013-2016) and a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology and History from Centre College (2007-2011). Augustus enjoys hiking, cycling, cooking, and live music.
