Proven ability to recruit successful student athletes. Chris MacKenzie enters his thirteenth season in charge of the UConn women's ice hockey program in 2025-26. He was named the second head coach in program history in May of 2013. A veteran of the collegiate coaching ranks, MacKenzie has experience in both the women's and men's sides of the sport. In the 2024-25 season, MacKenize led the Huskies to their second consecutive Hockey East Regular Season Championship, posting a 19-6-2 record in league play. MacKenzie had the Huskies in the national rankings for most of the season, appearing in the national polls in 20 out of the 22 weekly polls, earning a ranking as high as No. 8. The Huskies allowed the fewest goals in Hockey East play for the second year in a row, leading the conference in several statistical categories, including, goals against average (1.40), save percentage (.944), shots on net (840), faceoffs won (762), and faceoff win percentage (56.7%). A veteran of the hockey ranks with head coaching and professional playing experience, Casey Handrahan enters his thirteenth season as an assistant coach at UConn in 2025-26, and his fifth season as the Associate Head Coach. Handrahan oversees the goaltenders, defense, power play, recruiting, and video analysis. Under the guidance of Handrahan, UConn has sent over 25 players on to play professional hockey around the world since arriving in Storrs in 2013. Handrahan was recognized by the American Hockey Coaches Association in 2025 with the Assistant Women's Coach Award. The award honors an assistant coach's career body of work. In the 2024-25 season, Handrahan helped lead the Huskies to back to back Hockey East Regular Season Championships. Handrahan coached a program record five Huskies to All-Hockey East honors. For the second consecutive season, Handrahan coached goaltenders Tia Chan and Megan Warrener to the National Goalie of the Year Watch List, and guided Chan to her first Hockey East Goaltender of the Year award. Chan became the third goaltender under Handrahan to win Hockey East Goaltender of the Year honors. In the 2023-24 season, Handrahan helped lead the Huskies to a record breaking season recording 25 wins, the most in program history and taking home the Hockey East Regular Season and Conference Championship for the first time, earning their first ever NCAA tournament bid. Director of Olympic Sports Performance (Women’s Ice Hockey, Baseball, Women’s Volleyball)

Coach DeMarco joined the UConn staff in 2012. He currently oversees all aspects of training for Baseball, and Women's Ice Hockey. Before his current role at UConn, Joel played a key part in developing the Football team and led the strength and conditioning programs for Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country, Tennis, Women's Volleyball and Golf. He has played a role in the 2023-24- & 2024-25-Women's Hockey East Regular Season Conference Championships as well as the 2024 Hockey East Women's Tournament Championship. While overseeing Track & Field Sports Performance from 2014-2016, Joel helped the programs to two American Athletic Conference Championships in Women's Track & Field, a Men's AAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship. While overseeing sports performance for the Baseball program, the team has won 5 Straight Big East Regular Season Championships (2021-2025) as well as the 2021 & 2022 Big East Conference Tournament titles. Baseball has also advanced to two Super Regionals since 2022. Joel has worked with 8 All-Americans in baseball as well as 34 MLB draft picks, 11 NFL draft picks and 3 PWHL draft picks. Before arriving at UConn, Joel served as the first full-time Strength & Conditioning Coach at Trinity College where he built the Strength and Conditioning program from the ground up for 29 sports teams.
