on Instagram Janelle McDonald was named the new head coach of the UCLA Gymnastics team on May 9, 2022 and in the first three seasons has brought the Bruins back into national prominence with a 2025 NCAA runner-up finish and three conference titles. In 2025, UCLA’s first year in the Big Ten Conference, McDonald led the Bruins to big success. UCLA swept through the Big Ten with a perfect conference record to win the regular season title before recording a Championships record 198.450 to win the Big Ten Conference title, with four individual champions in Chae Campbell (all-around), Ciena Alipio (balance beam) and Brooklyn Moors and Jordan Chiles (floor exercise). The Big Ten Coach of the Year guided the Bruins to a second-place finish at the NCAA Championships and coached Chiles and Moors to NCAA individual titles on uneven bars and floor exercise, respectively. The 2025 Bruins went 33-6, scored 197 in 15 consecutive meets to end the season and earned a total of 22 All-America honors. In her first season as a head coach, McDonald was named the 2023 Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) West Region Coach of the Year, and she and her coaching staff were tabbed by College Gym News as the Coaching Staff of the Year. McDonald led UCLA to its first NCAA Championships appearance since 2019 and a final national ranking of fifth. Das has choreographed two NCAA Championship floor exercise routines (Brooklyn Moors in 2025 and Jordan Chiles in 2023), four conference championship routines (Chae Campbell and Pauline Tratz in 2021 and Moors and Chiles in 2025) and seven routines that have scored perfect 10s (Gracie Kramer in 2020; Campbell in 2022 and 2024; Chiles in 2022, 2023 and 2025; and Moors in 2025). Das has also created multiple floor exercise routines that have gone viral, including two routines from Nia Dennis that each amassed over 11 million views just on X alone. UCLA has finished the year ranked No. 1 in the nation on floor in three of Das’ six seasons as Bruin coach (2025, 2023 and 2020), and the Bruins will enter the 2026 season having scored 49+ in a school record 52 consecutive meets.

Olympian and All-American Emma Malabuyo joins the UCLA coaching staff in 2025-26 as a graduate student assistant coach. Malabuyo finished her collegiate career in 2025 as a four-time All-American and three-time conference team champion. During her senior season, she finished as the NCAA balance beam runner-up and was a nominee for the AAI Award. At the conference level, she earned first-team All-Big Ten honors and was UCLA’s honoree for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. Malabuyo earned first-team Academic All-America honors and was a finalist and the sport winner for the 2025 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar award. She was also a three-time WCGA Scholastic All-American. In 2022, Malabuyo became just the fourth UCLA freshman ever to score a perfect 10 on beam. At the elite level, Malabuyo represented the Philippines at the Olympic Games, earning her spot following a third-place all-around finish at the Asian Championships. She made history for the Philippines in 2024 when she became the first Filipina woman ever to win a gold medal at the Asian Championships with her floor exercise title. She had previously recorded the highest-ever placement by a Filipina gymnast at the 2023 Asian Championships when she won silver on floor exercise. Malabuyo was also a five-time U.S. National Team member and an alternate for the U.S. at the 2020 Olympics. In her current role, she also contributes to department-wide initiatives as a board member of the Sports Medicine Internship Program (SMIP) and is active in the UCLA Athletics Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, as well as the Student-Athlete Latino Spanish Association (SALSA). Before joining UCLA, Tracy worked at Cal State Northridge (CSUN) from 2013–2015, where she supported the women's water polo and cross country teams while earning her Master's degree in Kinesiology with a focus on Biomechanics. She holds a B.S. in Athletic Training from Northeastern University and has gained extensive hands-on experience through internships and clinical rotations with teams across several sports, including ice hockey, football, ballet, and volleyball. Tracy is a certified athletic trainer through the Board of Certification (BOC) and a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA). She also holds additional certifications in Blood Flow Restriction Therapy (BFR), Functional Movement Screen (FMS), and Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA).
