Mason Tomblin

Biography

Wooster native Mason Tomblin is The College of Wooster football team's defensive coordinator, coming to the College during the spring 2025 semester. Tomblin also coaches the linebackers. Tomblin returned home following a four-year stop at Iowa State University. Following his time as a graduate assistant for linebackers, Tomblin was promoted to director of defensive scouting and assistant linebackers coach. He worked with the linebackers in the film room, during practices with on-field skill development, and with them on the field during gamedays. Tomblin's recruiting work centered on evaluating potential transfer portal and junior college players and developing preliminary lists for each defensive position. He assisted with official and unofficial visits, junior days, and evaluated numerous prospects. While at Iowa State, Tomblin was part of the program's best season in school history. Iowa State went 11-3 in 2024 and won the Pop-Tarts Bowl. Prior to joining Iowa State's staff, Tomblin was a linebackers and recruiting graduate assistant at Ohio University, a defensive line coach and assistant director of recruiting at Ohio Wesleyan University, and a graduate intern at Miami University (Ohio) working with the quarterbacks. The Ohio Wesleyan four-year letterwinner earned honorable mention All-North Coast Athletic Conference status at linebacker. The semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's William V.
