Head Men's & Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Coach
Peter Carroll is entering his 25th season as the pilot of the Garnet cross country and track & field programs. After a two-year stint at Swarthmore in 1987-88 and 1988-89, followed by 11 years at Franklin & Marshall, Carroll returned to coach the Garnet in 2000. In his tenure at Swarthmore, Carroll has mentored 23 All-Americans, including two national champions, seven Academic All-Americans, 12 Centennial Conference Performers of the Year, and 68 NCAA qualifiers. Prior to coming back for his second stint at Swarthmore, Carroll coached seven All-Americans and more than 20 athletes that broke a school record at Franklin & Marshall. His 1999 men's indoor track & field team won the Centennial Conference crown. As an undergraduate student, Carroll was a member of the Villanova track & field and cross country programs. He won Big East and IC4A championships as a member of the Wildcats' 2-mile relay team and finished second in the Big East indoor 1,500-meters during his senior season. Carroll's personal-best time in the mile is 4:02.34. Carroll earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Villanova in 1982 and a master's in secondary education from the institution in 1985. He also studied extensively in the physical education and sports medicine graduate program at Ithaca College.
