Joe Dale

Biography

Joe Dale joins the Spartans in January of 2026 as the Safeties Coach after an eight-year tenure at Weber State, where he most recently served as the defensive coordinator. Dale was a primary architect of a Wildcats defense that captured four Big Sky titles and reached the FCS semifinals. A former standout safety at Utah, Dale was the 2007 Poinsettia Bowl MVP and part of the undefeated 2008 Sugar Bowl championship team. In December 2024, he was named the full Defensive Coordinator at Weber State. He spent the previous four seasons as the Co-Defensive Coordinator. He also coaches the Wildcat safeties. From 2021-24, Dale was the Co-Defensive Coordinator for the Wildcats and helped Weber State to one of the top defenses in the Big Sky Conference and FCS football. Dale joined the Weber State staff as an assistant coach in March 2018. During his time at Weber State, he has helped lead the Wildcats to three Big Sky titles and four trips to the FCS Playoffs, including the semifinals in 2019. Dale has helped coach the Wildcat defense, which has been one of the best in the country in several seasons. Weber State has been at or near the top of the Big Sky in total defense, scoring defense, rushing defense, and interceptions in multiple seasons. He has also spent time as the co-Special Teams Coordinator coaching the WSU kick returners. With the Wildcats, he has coached one All-American and several players that have earned All-Big Sky honors. In 2025, he coached four defensive players to
