Matt Micros

Biography

Matt Micros enters his eighth season at the helm in 2025 with a 44-58-17 overall record and a 30-25-11 record in conference play. He is the third head coach in SHU's history. In 2024, Micros led the Pioneers to their fifth consecutive playoff appearance in its first season in the MAAC. In five years in the NEC, the Pioneers reached the playoffs four times, reaching three semifinals with a championship game appearance in 2022. That game ended in a draw before FDU advanced to the NCAA tournament on penalty kicks. Overall, Micros has coached 9 players to all conference honors with an NEC Rookie of the Year nod for Michelle Clarkin in 2019. He posted his most successful season in 2022 with an 11-5-5 overall mark, including a non-conference road win over 2021 NCAA Sweet 16 program St. John’s from the Big East. Against the NEC, Micros led Sacred Heart to a third-place regular season finish with a 5-1-3 record. Victories over LIU and Merrimack landed the program in the conference championship game for only the third time in program history. The 2024 season was one that saw the Pioneers overcome five season ending injuries and an 0-8-2 start, to stun eventual conference champion and cross town rival, Fairfield 2-1, as part of a four game unbeaten streak that landed the Pios back in the playoffs.
