Former Boston University All-American and U.S. Olympian Ally Hammel is in her second season as an assistant coach at Penn State after joining the team prior to the 2025 campaign. She played at Boston University from 2015 through 2018. Hammel was a two-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-American, a two-time NFHCA Northeast Region Player of the Year and a two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year. Hammel helped lead BU to three Patriot League titles and three trips to the NCAA quarterfinals. She played in the 2018 Senior Game and was inducted into the Boston University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024. She joined the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2019 and competed internationally ever since. During her time with Team USA, Hammel competed in the FIH Pro League, the 2022 Pan American Cup and represented the United States in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Hammel is an FIH-rated coach and has a USA Field Hockey Level 1 Coaching Certification. She coached at HTC Field Hockey from 2012 through 2020 and has been Coaching Director, Recruiting Coordinator and Head Coach at DELTA Field Hockey since the summer of 2023.

Head coach of Penn State field hockey, Hannah Prince, has announced the addition of Janelle Ward to her inaugural coaching staff. Ward will serve as an assistant coach for the Nittany Lions. “I am thrilled to have Janelle rounding out our amazing coaching staff,” commented Prince. “Nelly’s coaching experience at the highly respected Temple program over the past two seasons has helped her grow tremendously. Nelly played for me at Saint Joseph’s, and not only does she have experience playing for and winning conference championships, but she has also competed in goal in the NCAA Tournament. Being able to bring her on board for this next chapter of Penn State field hockey makes me incredibly proud. Before her coaching stint with Temple, she was the goalie with Prince and associate head coach Mark Wadsley at St. Joseph’s for two seasons. Head coach of Penn State field hockey, Hannah Prince, has announced the addition of Mark Wadsley to her inaugural coaching staff. Wadsley will serve as the associate head coach for the Nittany Lions. Wadsley comes to Happy Valley after a three-year tenure at Saint Joseph’s where he served in the same role with Prince. In his first season with the Hawks’, Wadsley helped guide St. Joseph’s to a third consecutive A-10 regular season and tournament titles and their sixth berth in the NCAA Tournament in seven seasons. In a historic 2024 season for the Hawks’, Wadsley was a part of the NFHCA Mid-Atlantic Region Coaching Staff of the Year that led to the university’s first ever appearance in the NCAA national championship game. Along the way, he helped lead St. Joseph’s to the program’s highest ever national ranking, peaking at no. 3, its fourth consecutive A-10 regular season and tournament title sweep, the team’s first ever win in a NCAA tournament game, including victories over perennial powerhouses Princeton and North Carolina, and first ever Final Four appearance. In 2025, Wadsley guided the Hawks’ to a fifth straight A-10 tournament title and another NCAA tournament appearance, defeating Drexel in the opening game before falling to North Carolina. In his tenure at St. Joseph’s, Wadsley helped coach forward Manu Ghigliotti to being named regional Player of the Year and multiple First Team All-America honors.
