North Greenville University Baseball

North Greenville University hired Landon Powell as its Head Baseball Coach in June of 2014. NGU is a faith-based university located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. At the time, the school had little baseball tradition and minimal facilities. It had just completed an 8-35 season with a last place finish in Conference Carolinas and NGU was not represented on the All-Conference team. Landon's impact was immediate and has been consistent. His first team claimed 29 wins and qualified for NCAA post-season play by winning the Conference Carolinas Tournament. During his 11 seasons in Tigerville, Landon's teams have compiled 436 wins against 145 losses (75%). They have won 5 conference regular season titles, 6 conference tournament titles, 3 NCAA Regional titles, 2 NCAA Super Regional Titles and claimed the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championship. Seven of his teams have been ranked #1 in the country at some point during the season. Along the way, NGU has continued to improve facilities and has been selected to host six NCAA Regional tournaments. Landon has been voted Conference Coach of the Year 3 times and was named National Coach of the Year in 2022. Powell's players at NGU include 4-time All-American John Michael Faile, who was named the 2021 National Player of the Year and is the All-time Homerun and RBI leader in DII baseball.
