Haley Eckerman, a four-time All-American and 2012 national champion at the University of Texas, was named the ninth head coach in Kent State University volleyball history on March 7, 2022. The Eckerman era began with a 9-2 start as the Golden Flashes posted the most non-conference victories since the 2008 season. A program record five different student-athletes earned Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honors during the 2022 campaign. A youth movement at the pin positions resulted in three MAC All-Freshman Team selections during the first two seasons, with Mackenzie McGuire and Mia Soerensen earning the honor in 2022 and Logan Henderson in 2023. After becoming the first freshman to lead the team in kills since 2018 with 243 during the 2022 campaign, McGuire totaled 359 kills as a sophomore, the most by a Kent State attacker since 2017. During Eckerman’s tenure, two Flashes (Savannah Matthews and Danie Tyson) have surpassed 1,000 career kills and three (Alex Haffner, Matthews and Bryn Roberts) have surpassed 1,000 carer digs. Additionally, Erin Gardner became just the third member of Kent State’s 2,000-digs club during the 2022 season. Eckerman served as an assistant coach at Texas Christian University (TCU) during the 2021 season. She worked closely with the team’s hitters and defensive specialists during her lone season in Fort Worth, helping the Horned Frogs double their win total from the previous spring and push No. 6 Baylor to five sets in front of a Schollmaier
