Aaron Thompson

Biography

Aaron Thompson joined GW as the Director of Player Development in August 2023 and was elevated to Assistant Coach ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. Thompson moved into an assistant coach role in his second year with the program after serving as the Director of Player Development his first year year. Thompson added on-court coaching and recruiting responsibilities in his new role. In his first year as assistant coach, Thompson helped lead the team to its first 20-win season in a decade, culminating in the program’s first postseason bid in eight seasons with a trip to the College Basketball Crown. GW posted 20 wins in the regular season for the first time since 2015-16 and finished with 21 triumphs on the year, its most in nine years. Sophomore Trey Autry saw marked jumps in his production with the assistance of Thompson in 2024-25. Autry nearly doubled his scoring production to over 10.0 ppg and increased his percentages by at least 3% in field goal, 3-point and free throw shooting. Thompson begins his coaching career following a standout five-year playing career at Butler where he became the Bulldogs’ all-time career assists leader with 566. The Glenn Dale, Md., native also finished his career ranked ninth all-time at Butler with 155 steals and was one of 10 semifinalists for the 2020 Naismith Men’s Defensive Player of the Year Award.
