Interim Carl H. Meinig '31 Head Coach of Women's Tennis
Spencer Furman was named the Interim Carl H. Meinig '31 Head Coach of Women's Tennis at Cornell in September of 2025. Furman spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the men's team at Cornell (2022-25), helping lead the Big Red to significant success including an NCAA Tournament appearance in his first season with an upset over No. 23 Auburn. He coached unanimous first team All-Ivy selections and helped develop Radu Papoe into Cornell's first Ivy League Player of the Year in 24 years and the program's first All-American. Prior to Cornell, Furman was an assistant coach at Nebraska and played college tennis at both Duke and Baylor. As a player, he earned a career record of 60-37 in singles and 61-26 in doubles at Duke (2017-20), was ranked as high as No. 44 in singles and No. 12 in doubles, and earned an NCAA Doubles Tournament berth as a freshman. At Baylor, where he transferred as a graduate student in 2021, he went 26-4 in singles and 12-2 in doubles, won the Big 12 individual championship, and helped the Bears to their first No. 1 ranking since 2005 as a member of the 2021 NCAA finalist team. He holds a B.S. in Psychology from Duke (2020) and an M.S. in Business Administration from Baylor (2022).
