As one of the nation’s premier tennis coaches, Angelo Anastopoulo helped cultivate the tennis program at the College of Charleston from a Division I newcomer into one of the most well-regarded programs in the nation. After 35 years as the head coach of the College of Charleston women's tennis team and 24 years as The College's Director of Tennis, Angelo Anastopoulo announced his retirement on April 28, 2026. Anastopoulo also coached the men’s team from 1991 to 2001. An Era of Success Over the course of his vaunted career, Anastopoulo has compiled an impressive overall coaching record of 794-354 (.692). His record with the women’s team over the past 34 years is a remarkable 622-275 (.693). He finished his coaching career ranked eighth all-time among NCAA Division I women's tennis head coaches in career victories (622) and is in the top-40 all-time in winning percentage (.692). During his final season, Anastopoulo led Charleston to a 17-9 overall record and earned the program's first ever appearance in the UTR Sports NIT Championship. After going 6-2 in CAA play and making the CAA Tournament Semifinals for the second consecutive year, Charleston defeated North Texas in the NIT Quarterfinals on May 5, 2026 to secure the program's first postseason victory in Division I history.
