McCarthy comes to the Valley from Alaska Anchorage, where he had tremendous success with the Seawolves. In 13 seasons as the head coach there, he compiled an overall record of 309-67 (.822). A proven winner, his career head coaching record of 14 seasons is encapsulated by a 323-80 overall record. An Anchorage native, McCarthy carried a top-10 career winning percentage (.801) among active NCAA Div. II women's basketball coaches, having led UAA to the best winning percentage in program history (.939) with a 31-2 record in 2019-20. The six-time GNAC Coach of the Year led his hometown program to the third-best winning percentage and fourth-most total victories in NCAA Div. II over the past 10 years, reaching the NCAA National Title Game in 2016. Assistant Coach / Director of NIL
Bornhorst joins McCarthy's staff as the programs Director of NIL and an assistant coach in her first season with the Bulldogs in May of 2025. At Fresno State, Bornhorst's responsibilities will include assisting in the development of the post players, basketball operations, fundraising and spearheading NIL (name, image and likeness) opportunities for the student-athletes. Bornhorst comes off a three year stint at Georgia Tech as the assistant director of external operations/NIL liaison, where she oversaw alumni outreach and community service initiatives. Prior to Georgia Tech, Bornhost spent three years at Xavier as the director of women’s basketball operations and creative services. She served as the liaison with several departments including academics, compliance, facilities and alumni. Before transitioning to the administrative side of women’s basketball, Bornhorst was a graduate assistant at Texas Tech and assistant women’s basketball coach at Taylor University before serving as the interim head coach from 2016-17. A four-year women’s basketball letterwinner at Butler (2009-13), Bornhorst was a team captain and an Atlantic 10 Academic Honor Roll recipient, as well as a three-time Horizon League Academic Honor Roll member. Bornhorst graduated from Butler with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2013 before earning a master’s of sport management from Texas Tech in 2019.

Assistant Coach / Director of Player Development
Jalon McCullough was hired as the Bulldogs' assistant coach and director of player development on April 30, 2025 and enters his first season with the Bulldogs. McCullough's responsibilities will include all-around player development and assistance with the guard players. McCullough comes as a part of McCarthy's previous staff at the University of Anchorage Alaska and will spend his third year under McCarthy's leadership. Prior to working on the women's side at UAA, McCullough spent two season as an assistant with the men's program. The Fairbanks native transitioned into a coaching role following his collegiate career at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he was a three-time letterwinner. Prior to his collegiate career, McCullough starred at Monroe Catholic High School in Fairbanks, where his teams advanced to the ASAA state title game every year – winning three times. McCullough earned his bachelor of arts degree in communications, with a minor in sports management, from UAF in 2020.

Assistant Coach
Jenna McCarthy was hired as an assistant coach in May of 2025. McCarthy will also have involvement coaching the guards. McCarthy also comes from McCarthy's previous staff at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where she was a volunteer assistant coach for two seasons. Prior to UAA, McCarthy spent a total of four seasons on staff at Florida Gulf Coast University, three of which were as an assistant coach. McCarthy started her collegiate career at Butler University with the Bulldogs (2010-12). With the Butler Bulldogs, she was tabbed 2012 Horizon League All-Defensive Team while totaling 843 points, 429 rebounds and 276 assists in 131 contests. McCarthy spent her final two seasons at Florida Gulf Coast before transitioning into the coaching staff the following year. While at FGCU, she saw back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances, which included a first-ever postseason tournament win against Oklahoma State. She came out of Miami Trace High School (2010) as a McDonald's All-American nominee and a two-time All-Ohio selection after producing 1,500 points in her high school career. McCarthy earned her bachelor's degree in communications with a double minor in marketing and advertising from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2015.

Assistant Coach
Ramaundo Vaughn was hired as an assistant coach in May of 2025 and joins the Fresno State women’s basketball program with over 14 years of collegiate head coaching experience. Vaughn holds a championship pedigree as well as a nationally respected record in player development. Vaughn arrives in Fresno following a decorated junior college coaching career at Laney College (Oakland, Calif.) and Diablo Valley College (Pleasant Hill, Calif.), where he compiled a combined record of 302–113 (.728). Vaughn built Laney into a powerhouse from 2021-25, claiming four consecutive Bay Valley Conference titles with a dominant 59–1 league record. His leadership earned him four straight Conference Coach of the Year awards. During his tenure, 17 players earned All-Conference honors, including four league MVP's and seven All-State selections. His 2023–24 squad reached the 3C2A State Final 8, and the program achieved a department-best team GPA of 3.2. Prior to his time at Laney College, Vaughn spent ten seasons at Diablo Valley College and led the Vikings to the 2018–19 3C2A State Championship and three Big 8 Conference titles. His tenure included four State Final 8 appearances and three Sweet 16 runs. Diablo Valley College produced 26 All-Conference players, five Conference MVPs, and led California in Division I transfers during his time with 14 players advancing. Associate Head Coach
Shaina Afoa was hired as the Bulldogs' Associate Head Coach on April, 29, 2025. Afoa will have a coaching emphasis on post players at Fresno State. Afoa comes to Fresno as a part of McCarthy's previous coaching staff from University of Anchorage Alaska, where she spent 13 seasons and now enters her 11th season as McCarthy's associate head coach. In her time at UAA, the Anchorage native helped the Seawolves to a 306-67 overall record, eight straight NCAA Tournaments (2014-22), six straight Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular-season titles (2015-20) and four GNAC Tournament titles. In 2018, Afoa was named the NCAA Div. II National Assistant Coach of the Year and a Thirty Under 30 recognition by the WBCA in March of 2017. Afoa's first season as head assistant at UAA included the 2016 NCAA West Region title as the Seawolves earned their first-ever and first-ever national title games. The following season Afoa contributed to a record-breaking 30-2 overall record and earned the first 20-0 league record in GNAC history. Afoa was a three-sport athlete at GNAC rival Central Washington from 2006-11, lettering four times in both basketball and track & field, plus once in volleyball. A three-year starter at center, she finished No. 2 on the Wildcats' career list for blocks with 126, plus fourth in rebounds (599), sixth in games started (79) and 10th in field-goal percentage (.461).
