In seven seasons, the former two-time All-American and four-time NBA All-Star has compiled a 155-68 record, helped lead Memphis to seven consecutive 20-win seasons, the 2021 NIT Championship, 2023 AAC Tournament title, and both the regular-season and tournament crowns in 2025. His teams have made three NCAA Tournament appearances (2022, 2023, 2025), and his 155 victories rank third-most in program history through a coach’s first seven years. Hardaway has coached two NBA first-round picks, mentored three AAC Freshmen of the Year, and developed multiple All-AAC and All-Freshman honorees. Under his leadership, Memphis has twice had the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class and eight wins over ranked opponents, with multiple stints in the national top 10. Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway returned to the University of Memphis in 2018 with a singular mission: to restore the proud tradition of Tiger basketball and lead the program back to national prominence. In the years since, he has done exactly that - transforming Memphis into a perennial contender while continuing to build one of the most respected and competitive programs in college basketball. Director of Player Development
Memphis native Darrell Brown Jr. returned home in June 2025 to join head coach Penny Hardaway’s staff as the Tigers’ director of player development. A former Germantown High School star and one of the most accomplished players in Bradley University history, Brown brings deep local ties, proven experience, and a sharp eye for teaching the game. Brown, who is Hardaway’s godson, grew up learning the game from the four-time NBA All-Star while starring locally at Germantown. He graduated in 2016 as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,678 points and went on to enjoy a decorated collegiate career at Bradley (2016–20). A four-year starter for the Braves, he became the only player in program history to lead the team in both points and assists all four seasons, finishing fifth in career points (1,860), fifth in assists (491), and fourth in three-pointers made (225). He was a three-time All-Missouri Valley Conference selection and the 2020 MVC Tournament Most Outstanding Player after leading Bradley to its second straight NCAA Tournament berth. Assistant Coach
Trevor DeLoach was announced as an assistant coach under head coach Penny Hardaway on March 30 2026. DeLoach has earned national recognition in the coaching ranks. In 2025, he was named to Silver Waves Media’s Elite 75 “Future Head Coach” list, which spotlights rising assistants with distinguished achievements and head coaching potential. DeLoach spent the 2024-25 season at UTSA, where he helped develop Primo Spears into an American Conference second-team selection. He was heavily involved in recruiting and player development for the Roadrunners. Before UTSA, DeLoach served three seasons as an assistant coach at Jacksonville from 2021-24. He was part of 50 victories during that span, including a runner-up finish in the 2022 ASUN Championship. The Dolphins built one of the nation’s top defenses under his watch, finishing fifth nationally in scoring defense in 2022. He recruited and developed several standouts, including All-ASUN first-team guard Kevion Nolan and Tommy Bruner, who ranked second nationally in scoring during the 2023-24 season. DeLoach previously spent two seasons at Nicholls State from 2019-21, including a stint as associate head coach. He recruited six All-Southland Conference honorees, including Ty Gordon, the 2021 Southland Newcomer of the Year, and helped guide the Colonels to a Southland regular-season championship, a league tournament finals appearance and 21 victories.
