Biography

Victor Lopez enters his fifth season as athletic performance director for the Florida men’s basketball program in 2026-27. During his tenure, the Gators have claimed the 2025 national championship, the 2025 SEC Tournament championship and the 2026 SEC championship and have seen three players selected in the NBA Draft. Florida has a 103-41 record since Lopez joined Florida in 2022. In 2025-26, the Gators claimed the SEC regular season championship with a 16-2 conference record and posted a 27-8 overall record, earning a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history. Florida posted a 12-game winning streak and had four players earn SEC honors, and Rueben Chinyelu developed into the national defensive player of the year. Over the course of the past two seasons, Florida’s primary minutes leaders have missed just 10 of a possible 280 player games due to injury, an availability rate of 96.4%. During the 2025-26 campaign, five of Florida’s eight minutes leaders did not miss any time due to injury, and the three others missed just one game each. Lopez’s work helped the 2024-25 Gators weather the 40-game season with their top seven players in minutes combining to miss just seven total games all season. Three players – Rueben Chinyelu, Thomas Haugh and Will Richard – played all 40 games to match the program record.
