Director of Sports Performance / Women’s Basketball
Andrea Hudy, MBA, PhD, is the Director of Sports Performance for UConn Women's Basketball, a role she assumed in May 2021. A proud UConn alumna, she earned her master's degree in sport biomechanics in 1999 and previously served the Huskies from 1995 to 2004, contributing to three programs that secured eight NCAA Championships. With over 30 years of experience in collegiate health and performance, Hudy has been part of 10 national championship teams, earning her tenth title in 2025. She spent 15 years at the University of Kansas, where she was instrumental in the men's basketball program's 2008 NCAA Championship and its NCAA-record 14 consecutive regular-season conference titles. In 2021, she played a pivotal role in helping Texas Men's Basketball win its first-ever Big 12 Tournament Championship. Throughout her career, Hudy has trained and mentored more than 100 athletes who have advanced to the NBA or WNBA. She has worked under three Hall of Fame coaches and collaborated with some of the world's leading researchers in resistance training, biomechanics and athletic medicine. These experiences have shaped her evidence-based approach to performance enhancement, athlete resilience, risk reduction and long-term athletic development. In 2025, she earned her PhD, specializing in longitudinal monitoring in elite women's basketball, with a focus on cumulative workload, recovery dynamics and athlete resilience across multiple competitive seasons.

Associate Head Coach
In 40 seasons in Storrs, Hall of Fame associate head coach Chris Dailey has been instrumental in building UConn into an unmatched national power with head coach Geno Auriemma. The duo has led the Huskies to 12 NCAA Championships and 61 conference titles. Arriving at Connecticut with Auriemma in 1985, Dailey is the coordinator of UConn’s highly successful recruiting efforts. The two transformed the program from one that only had one winning season to an annual powerhouse, including 48 All-Americans, 24 Final Fours and six perfect seasons. Dailey served as the program’s primary assistant from 1985-88 before being promoted to associate head coach in 1988. Dailey was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2018. She is one of the first assistant coaches to earn a spot in the hall of fame. In 2013, Dailey was inducted into the Connecticut Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. She was also selected to the New Jersey Sports Writers Association Hall of Fame in 2002 and was honored with the NJSWA’s Distinguished Service to Basketball Award. Dailey earned the 2019 Joe Lapchick Character Award. Dailey has stepped in and served as a head coach for the Huskies numerous times, leading the Huskies to a 17-0 record. In 1989, she directed UConn to the BIG EAST Tournament title – the program’s first – while Auriemma served a suspension. A standout student-athlete and member of UConn's first NCAA Championship team, Jamelle Elliottt is in her 18th season as an assistant coach for her alma mater entering the 2025-26 season. Elliott was previously on the staff from 1998-2009, helping coach UConn to five national championships. She officially rejoined the staff for the 2020-21 season after serving in an interim role at the end of the 2019-20 season. Elliott earned her sixth NCAA Championship and seventh overall at UConn in 2025. A four-year letterwinner, Elliott helped build the UConn women's basketball dynasty and finished her career ranked No. 2 among UConn’s all-time rebounding leaders (1,054), No. 5 in Big East career rebounding (558) and No. 11 in UConn career scoring (1,387). Elliott, at the time, became only the second player in UConn history to surpass the 1,000 point and 1,000 rebound milestones. She is among the UConn career leaders for games played with 135, never missing a single game or practice in her four collegiate years. In her four years as a player, UConn posted an overall record of 117-18. Elliott served as the head coach at Cincinnati from 2009-18. The Bearcats earned two postseason berths and every student-athlete who exhausted their eligibility earned their degree. Associate Athletic Trainer (WBB, Golf)
Janelle Francisco is the primary athletic trainer for women's basketball and men's golf at UConn. She oversees the day-to-day care of the women's basketball student-athletes as well as assisting in the medical care of student-athletes in all sports. Francisco is also responsible for CPR, AED and first aid training of the Sports Medicine department and coordinating CPR, AED and first aid training for the Athletics staff. Francisco began working at UConn in 2008 and has worked with the baseball, football, women's ice hockey and men & women's tennis programs. Francisco came from Wagner College, in Staten Island, NY, where she was the head athletic trainer for football and women's basketball from 2005-08. From 2003-05, she was a graduate assistant athletic trainer for women's basketball at Central Connecticut. Francisco was also an intern athletic trainer at Villanova University for women's volleyball and softball from 2002-03. She received her bachelor's degree in kinesiology/athletic training from UConn in 2002 and her master's degree in physical education from Central Connecticut State University in 2005. Francisco has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) since 1999. She became a Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer in 2002. Valley was a three-time national champion for the Huskies as a student-athlete and helped UConn to the 2025 NCAA Championship as a coach. In her first four seasons as a coach in Storrs, Valley also helped UConn to eight BIG EAST regular season and conference titles, three NCAA Final Fours and two NCAA Championship game appearances. Serving as a guards coach, Valley helped develop National Player of the Year Paige Bueckers and WNBA Draft selections Lou Lopez Sénéchal, Nika Mühl and Kaitlyn Chen. Valley spent two seasons as the head coach at Hartford. She has coached in the Atlantic Coast Conference, America East, Atlantic 10, BIG EAST, Colonial Athletic Association, Pac-12 and the Patriot League. Prior to Hartford, Valley spent two seasons as an assistant at Arizona, where she helped the Wildcats secure their highest-ranked recruiting class in program history in 2018. She also assisted the team to the 2019 WNIT Championship. Valley served as an assistant coach at Washington from 2015-17, helping the western Huskies to their first-ever Final Four in 2016. A core member of the coaching staff that began the UConn dynasty, Tonya Cardoza enters her 17th season in Storrs in 2025-26. Cardoza is in her second stint on the UConn coaching staff and primarily works with the Huskies' guards. Her return has had an immediate impact as UConn won the 2025 NCAA Championship, her sixth as a member of the coaching staff, as well as four BIG EAST Conference championships. Cardoza was an assistant coach for the Huskies from 1994-2008. In her first 14 seasons on the bench at UConn, the Huskies won five national titles. Cardoza also helped UConn to eight Final Fours, nine Elite Eights and 18 BIG EAST titles as she served a paramount role in building UConn into a powerhouse in women's basketball. Cardoza returned to UConn ahead of the 2023-24 season. In her time at UConn, Cardoza has helped develop guards into All-Americans and National Players of the Year, including Jennifer Rizzotti, Shea Ralph, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Renee Montgomery and Paige Bueckers. Cardoza served as the Temple women's basketball head coach from 2008-22. In her 14 seasons in Philadelphia, Cardoza's team competed in postseason tournaments seven times, including four NCAA Tournament appearances. She finished her time as Temple's winningest head coach with a record of 251-188. Cardoza played collegiately at Virginia, graduating with a degree in anthropology in 1991. She helped lead the Cavaliers to three ACC regular season titles and the 1991 NCAA championship game.
