Craig Hammel

Biography

Craig Hammel joined NC State in July 2016 and serves as the Assistant Athletics Director of Athletics Communications. In his current role, he is the primary communications contact for the Wolfpack men’s basketball and men’s golf programs. Prior to joining NC State, Hammel spent five years on staff at the Horizon League, rising to the title of Senior Director of Communications and Scheduling. He served as the conference lead for the sports information directors committee and scheduling committee, while also handling the day-to-day communications efforts for multiple sports, including men’s basketball. In addition, he served as the Assistant Media Coordinator for the 2015 Men’s Final Four and was the Media Coordinator for the 2016 Women’s Final Four. Hammel spent two years on the public relations staff with the Indianapolis Colts for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He helped edit the weekly game notes packets, wrote stories for the official team website and provided gameday staffing, including Super Bowl XLIV. A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Hammel graduated from the University of Tennessee. He worked in the sports information department while at UT, handling day-to-day media responsibilities for the men’s tennis team while also assisting with the men’s basketball and football programs. Hammel and his wife, Abby, reside in Raleigh with their children, Olivia, Grant and Jack.
